The only reason not to have WinPatrol would be because you feel that another startup monitor, like Anvir, is good for you and you want to avoid redundancy. The startup issues are fundamental, and a great way to limit malware potential. Thus I see a good anti-malware with HIPS (maybe a separate anti-keylogger) and a good firewall (or a suite if you want to combine). In other words, WP does not claim to be a full HIPS. In fact, I am just looking at the 'suggestion' tab now.Also I think WP may not do some of the HIPS stuff of watching the size and checksum of. how much is given, how much is user defined, etc. (To be clear I am not an expert on how WinPatrol works on the registry stuff, which is the last two years. dll injection, that is not focused on startup alone. Some programs will give excellent protection on protecting registry entries and system files, watching. Example: a friend was using IE today and the puppy was woofing about Active-X controls here and there.) even they have not been as exhaustive on startup issues, including stuff like browser extensions, the scheduler and hidden startup points.
and Anvir Task Manager (a funny program that at times is surprisingly helpful). (The only programs that I have found that are in the ballpark are Startup Organizer (competent and security helpful, but far less exhaustive from a security perspective, very nice on overall visuals).
Even if the suites have been enhancing their startup security, it has been a walk or trot, not a gallop. In comparison to suites and other software, I do not think you will find any that are as comprehensive on the startup issues. You can occasionally get two warnings for the same event, but I have no problem with that. I have run WinPatrol with Outpost firewall and many other security software items.
